Support these self-advocate entrepreneurs, while honoring the mothers in your life! Both Kayla and Carolyn offer the perfect gifts for Mother’s Day
Meet Kayla, owner and operator of KBee Candles! Kayla is a graduate of the Entrepreneur Academy, a flagship program developed by the Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida (DSACF). Kayla found her passion making candles, receiving guidance and training from the Entrepreneur Academy to create and run her own business. All candles are handmade by Kayla in her home kitchen, in small batches using 100% pure beeswax pellets.
In Kayla’s words “My beeswax candles are hypo-allergenic, great for people with allergies. Because beeswax candles clean the air and reduce indoor pollutants, they can effectively reduce asthma, allergies, and hay fever. Beeswax candles are the perfect choice for those of us who want a clean burning candle in our home. “
There are a variety of sizes and types available. In addition to candle melts, and tea lights, she has a four, eight and ten ounce candle tins. There is something for everyone!
Meet Carolyn and her mom Elise, the driving force behind Reason to Bake!
A Reason to Bake was launched with two goals in mind. First, Carolyn and Elise are committed to training and hiring adults with intellectual disabilities as they grow their business. They believe everyone deserves an opportunity to become the best version of themselves. They have created a safe space where there are no limits to what people with IDD can learn and accomplish. They want to be that company that says “Yes, you can!”
Second, they valued a gluten-free lifestyle but couldn’t find anything on retail shelves to meet their standards. They wanted cookies that EVERYONE would love to eat. So they decided to create their own. Made in Transylvania, North Carolina, their Spicy Ginger, Chocolate Chip and Cranberry Oatmeal cookies are made with the highest quality ingredients. Give it a try – you won’t be disappointed!
